Gostisbehere on waivers
A 27-year-old who has two more years on his contract ($4.5M cap hit, $3.25M salary) after this one, Shayne Gostisbehere had 65 points, with 33 on the power play, in 2017-2018. This season he has spent significant time in the press box but has become more aggressive offensively, putting 46 shots on goal in his past 16 games. The results have not been great, as Gostisbehere has been outshot and outscored this season but not by huge margins in either case. A team that is seeking a puck-moving defenseman could take a shot but two years left on his deal does make it a little more challenging. Ottawa, Detroit, Chicago, and Arizona are a few of the teams that might make some sense.
So, too is Nick Holden, a 33-year-old defenseman for Vegas who has played entirely fine in his limited minutes this season but he has only played in 13 games. His contract runs through next season ($1.7M cap hit, $1.4M salary in 2021-2022) so there is a little investment required but Holden is a low-risk veteran option.
Ottawa sends D Christian Wolanin to the Kings for C Michael Amadio
Wolanin is a puck-moving defenseman who tends to create chances at both ends. There may be a spot for him as a third-pair guy who can work the second power play unit but he probably needs to tighten up his defensive game a little to even secure that kind of role.
Amadio is a fourth-line center who had a career-high 16 points last season and has just two assists in 20 games this season. He doesn’t look like a player with upward mobility in the lineup but the Sens could move him into a middle six role and see how he fares with more skilled linemates than he might have been used to in Los Angeles.

DIGGING DEEP
Nashville RW Luke Kunin returned to the lineup after missing nearly a month and has three assists in his first two games back, skating on a line with Mikael Granlund and Calle Jarnkrok. Who knows what the future holds for the Predators this season – they could make a bunch of trades before the deadline – but it seems likely that Kunin will have an opportunity to play decent middle six minutes for them the rest of the way and he is rostered in 1% of Yahoo leagues.
